Transition Year students complete their Gaisce Walk

During April, all TY's took on one of their hardest challenges yet- The Gaisce hike. It was a 28km hike in Glendalough, with an overnight stay in a hostel. The first day consisted of summiting Peak 2000, and then completeing The Sphinx, essentially doing a semi-circle around Glendalough, and walked roughly 19km.

On returning to the hostel we then had to prepare and cook our own dinners, which some might say was as hard as the hike! It wasn't complete mayhem, though. The hostel provided us with a large kitchen and it was used in rotations based on class, and we all had previously been divided into groups of four or five people to plan what we would cook.

The next day was just as hard as the first, and we completed 9-10km, walking all around the lake.

All would agree that it was an incredible bonding experience, and one never to be forgotten. Many thanks to the teachers that organised, helped and came with us on the days. Lastly thanks to our walking guides.

First Years take part in Food Waste Prevention Cooking

First year students participated in a cookery demonstration by chef Vorneen Hennessy cookery 1highlighting the necessity of preventing food waste. Following this the cookery 2students put their newly acquired knowledge into practice and took part in a food waste prevention cookery competition. All students showed an array of skills as is evident from the amazing dishes produced. After much deliberation Roisin McNamee and Ellen Clarke won first place with their chorizo crostini and chicken Caesar salad, Sarah Bird and Sally Keilty followed closely in second with chicken carbonara. The winners are invited to show case their dishes at the Naas Wild Food Festival next September.
