Meitheal
Meitheal is a Diocesan run project in which senior students are selected and trained by diocesan personnel to mentor 1st year pupils.
The aim of Meitheal is to ease the transition of pupils from Primary to Secondary education.
The Meitheal leaders meet the 1st years on the morning they arrive and spend time with them in their first days in their new school, helping them in whatever way they can.
Throughout the year the Meitheal team visit the class at least twice a week and organise class and year activities for them and they are always on hand to advise and listen to pupils.
They work closely with the class tutor, counsellors and Year Head in an effort to make the transition to secondary school as happy as possible for all pupils.

Meitheal Team 2013-2014
In the first week of school the first years got to know each other by participating in ice breaker games with their Meitheal leaders which were enjoyed by all. The table quiz was held at the end of the first week and the first years were split into groups and shared their general knowledge with each other. There were 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes awarded to the winning teams. It was a great way for the girls to mix with other students they didn’t know and a nice way to end their first week in St. Mary’s College.
The next event that the Meitheal team hosted was the “Pyjama Movie Night”. There were two “cinema screens” set up in the school. We had a great turnout with everyone wearing their finest pyjamas. The girls enjoyed snacking on their “Goodie bags” whilst watching the movie they voted for. We all enjoyed the musical comedy “Pitch Perfect” and spent the night singing along to the upbeat songs.
Before we broke for mid-term the team hosted a “Spooktacular Halloween Party”. The Meitheal team organised different activities in each of the rooms that were thoroughly enjoyed by all. The girls solved murder mysteries, endured the scary stories and were frightened by the CBS Meitheal team on their spooky tour of the school. The night ended with a fashion show with prizes for the best dressed. The overall winner was Sarah Adekoya who designed a “Jelly Bean” outfit and wowed the
judges.
After a hard week of Christmas exams the girls were rewarded with a Christmas themed disco in the CBS. Music was provided on the night by renowned DJ, Darragh Gunning, a current student of CBS. The girls received a complimentary drink to quench their thirst after all the dancing. Even the teachers were seen dancing at one stage…!! We would like to thank the teachers who supervised, Ms. Egan and Ms. O’Shea, who helped make the night a success. A huge thanks especially to all the first year girls who made the night very enjoyable for all.
Meitheal Further Training Course and River of Life.
We made our Meitheal River,in preparation for our Further Training Day in Castletown during the Christmas Holidays, to depict our journey as a Meitheal team from our Training Week in the Summer to Christmas of 2013.
Our river begins with 12 separate tributaries all joining together at a picture of us at the Mass of our Commissioning Ceremony at the end of our training week. The river then journeys through all of the different events that we organised for the first years and our development as a team, including the difficulties that we faced. The 3 circles in the middle are the Meitheal Symbol representing 'me, others around me, and the larger community.'
