Ethos report, Oct., 2015
Prayers were read over the intercom, for Phil Dunning, past principal, whose death occurred on Sept. 18th. Tables in both reception and the staff-room had a photo of Phil, a vase of roses and a lit candle on them, for the full week, following her death.
Mercy Day mass was celebrated on Wed., Sept. 23rd; a very uplifting liturgical experience. Wonderful music from the Music Dept., carefully enunciated readings from the girls, a fluid presentation of Mercy symbols and excellent behaviour all round was evident. John Paul II award students acted as Ministers of the Eucharist. Orla Forde read an intercom prayer to acknowledge on Thurs., Sept 24th, acknowledging Mercy Day worldwide.
At the school's open night, Oct. 6th, students giving a tour of the school brought parents to the prayer room and explained what happens there during the year. A knowledge of and reverence for Padre Pio was evident, as was an appreciation of the varied events that take place in the room; prayer services, meditation, confession etc.
Following a request from Fr. Liam, second and fifth year students (some John Paul II award students) attended a meeting in the parish office at 4.10 pm, to prepare for the upcoming parish mission from Oct. 18th-23rd. Students from the CBS and Piper's Hill were also there. The lay member of the Redemptorist mission team, Niamh, explained that Friday (final night of the mission) is Youth Night and that the group would have a special role to play on that night. An hour a day, after school, needs to be set aside Mon.-Fri that week, to prepare. OH attended the meeting.
Preparation is well under way for the TY harvest Festival. 4J, 4s and 4T will celebrate it on Tues., Oct 20th and 4f, 4H and 4I will celebrate on Thurs., Oct 22nd.
Break-time prayers will resume in the prayer-room this coming Friday, Oct. 16th. Anyone who attends will be invited to place prayers in a prayer-box. These, and any other intentions will be prayed for.
