Well done to the Green Schools committee on their organisation of a Green Tea Party in the Assembly Hall recently to reward the year group winners of the Green Space Poster Competition, held before Christmas. The committee, and their teachers Ms. O. Humphreys and Ms. Moher, worked really hard to create the 'green' atmosphere in the Assembly hall. Refreshments were served and all winners enjoyed a powerpoint presentation, music and a short speech on the 'Importance of Re-cycling' given by Mitu and Sadie. Congratulations also to the committee who received their certificate from the organisers of the 'Neat Streets' project. This is an anti litter and waste management project for secondary schools.

Well done to all classes on their participation in the recent 'Green School' poster competition.Congratulations to the year group winners, 1M, 2S, 3T, 4F, 5F and 6A. Well done and many thanks to the Green Schools Committee and their teachers Ms. O. Humphreys and Ms. Moher for all their work in promoting care of our environment by Reducing, Reusing and Recycling.
This year at St. Mary's College the Green-Schools Committee is more determined than ever to achieve the first Green Flag in the history of the school. We have made it our mission to tackle the issue of recycling within the school and to reduce the currently unacceptable amount of general waste produced. The evidence speaks for itself; the recycling bins are full of non-recyclables! Therefore, the message of the campaign will be VERY SIMPLE:
RECYCLE PAPER AND EMPTY PLASTIC BOTTLES ONLY
Recycling Awareness Week in October 2016 has been a huge part of our campaign as we updated our recycling signs, created a striking "Green Brick Way" on Mercy corridor and promoted and encouraged proper use of bins. In September of this year, an astonishing 110 black bins were filled by St. Mary’s. Therefore, our objective this year is to reduce the number of black bins and increase participation in recycling.
The Green-Schools Committee is represented by over thirty enthusiastic students from all year groups who are concerned about the environment and reducing waste. Leading this Committee are sixth year students Sadie Byrne, Emma Doyle, Chloe O’Connell and Chloe O’Leary with support from Ms. Moher and Ms. Humphreys. We will continue to persevere as it is our ambition that, with the help of all members of the school community, this year will be the year of the flag!
