Hockey

Well done and hard luck to the Minor Hockey team who were beaten in the Leinster Final on Friday 10th March. Players gave it their all against St. Joseph of Cluny and despite their committment and effort were unlucky to lose in the final. Congratulations to all team members  for their dedication to practice since September and to their coach, Ms. Howard, for her training and encouragement of the team.

Hockey this year has gotten off to a great start with the number of teams again increasing. St. Mary's has entered -
two first year teams, two minor teams, two junior teams and one senior team in the Leinster school girls hockey leagues. Best of luck to all involved.

Minor Team News
The Minor team has had a great start to the season. The first game played was away to Loreto Foxrock and despite having most of the possession and winning a number of short corners, St. Mary's could not break the strong Loreto Foxrock defense.minor hockey team 2016-20171
The game finished 0-0.

The next game was at home against Loreto Dalkey. The girls showed a marked improvement and the lessons learned from the first game were displayed here with St. Mary's finishing the game 3-0 winners over the visiting side.

On Wednesday 16th of Oct. the team journeyed to Wesley College Dublin for their next game. The team got off to an ideal start with Aida McNamee finding the net in the opening minutes.
However the hosts fought back and the game was 1-1. It stayed that way until shortly before the break when Aoife Lawlor put the St. Mary's girls in the lead again. The second half saw the team come together and seal the win with goals from Roisin Cunninghnam and Lynn Sparrow.

The match was not with out its challenges as our defense showed their talents keeping out a number of Wesley attacks and short corners.
