Trócaire Lenten Campaign

This year the annual Lenten Trócaire Campaign is focused on Malawi and it's peoples need for fresh, clean water. Access to fresh water is a human right, not a privilege and we here at St. Mary's College want to do our best to help our brothers and sisters throughout the world to have access to this most precious gift of water, given to all people by God. As the Trócaire Campaign is launched during Lent, we decided to make sacrifices ourselves in order to, in some small way, empathise with the affected people and to feel a little of what it is they suffer on a daily basis.DSCN0391 In light of this we decided to hold a 'Blue Day' on Friday 14th March in order to show our support for this worthy cause. The numbers who participated and turned up dressed symbolically in blue were inspiring. Those who wanted to help decided to partake in sponsored fasts and silences. Some of our students were very creative and spoke in Irish only for the day or gave up all access to technology and even to hot water! When all monies raised are collected we will make a presentation to Trócaire. We will keep you updated so check back here to find out how much we managed to raise and how that money will help to change the lives of those who receive it ! We will now leave you with a Bible quotation which we believe sums up the  nature of this Campaign and indeed our calling as Christians to work for the betterment of humanity everywhere!

" Then the righteous will answer Him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? And He replied.....When you did this for the least amongst you.....then you did it for me! For who can turn away from his own flesh and blood' Matthew 25 : 37 .
