Senior Hockey News

Commiserations to St. Mary's Senior Hockey team who, despite having most of the possession and giving a very strong performance, were beaten by Dundalk Grammar school in the Leinster Semi final. Many thanks to the girls for their committment to the team and to their coaches Ms. Howard, Ms. Garry and Mr. Brogan for all their help and encouragement.

Numeracy Initiative in St. Mary's

As part of the numeracy initiative in St. Mary's, a Maths puzzle is published every two weeks on the school TV screens and the Maths noticeboard. Well done to all winners to date. Many thanks to Ms. Doherty and Ms. Dudley for their organisation of the quiz.

Well done to St. Mary's First and Second year athletes, and their coaches Ms. Parke and Ms. O'Sullivan, who participated in the Leinster Indoor Athletic
Championships at the National indoor arena.

Congratulations to St. Mary's Senior A hockey team who have qualified for the Leinster semi final against Dundalk Grammar school.Best of luck to them and their coaches, Ms. Howard, Ms. Garry and Mr. Brogan
 
Well done to St. Mary's Minor B hockey team, and their coaches,  Ms. Howard and Ms. Garry, who drew 0-0 against St. Joseph’s Cluny, Killiney.
The St. Mary’s girls dominated and were unlucky not to win.

St. Mary's are Ireland's fittest girls school 2018

The results of the Irish Life Health School's Fitness Challenge 2018 have revealed that St. Mary's is the fittest girls secondary school in Ireland. Well done to all the first, second and fifth years who participated. St. Mary's second years were awarded second place in the competition and the Leaving Certificate 5th year P.E. class was named the national winner. Congratulations to the PE Department on such an achievement.Over 10,000 students in total took part. This national health initiative is designed to assess and improve fitness levels among secondary students in Ireland with the aim of improving overall health and it also recognises the fittest and most improved schools across Ireland. The programme is overseen by Prof. Niall Moyna in the Center of Preventive Medicine, Dublin City University.
Now in it's eight year, over 200,000 students have participated in the Irish Life Health Schools Fitness Challenge making it the largest national multi-year surveillance study on the fitness of secondary school children in Ireland.
