Gaelic Football – Leinster Quarter Final
The U-14 Gaelic team got off to a great start this year with convincing wins over Ard Scoil na Trionóide, Athy and Scoil Mhuire, Clane to progress to the Leinster quarter finals. The team consisted of a number of extremely strong players in all positions. Some of the best displays have come from Aislinn Aherne and Maria Doyle in the back line, Laoise Dunne and Ciara Breslin who have endless energy and put in a huge amount of work in midfield and Sarah Cullen who has been our goal scoring star forward.
The Leinster quarter finals took place on Wednesday the 14th May in Naas GAA against Ratoath College. The girls battled hard from the start in a match that was a greater challenge than previous games. We lost Laoise Dunne for a period at the end of the first half due to a collision, and with Sarah Cullen absent, everyone fought hard and we went in level at half time with 3-1. Unfortunately Ratoath started the stronger in the second half and with three quick goals they pulled ahead and were able to maintain this lead to the final whistle. The final score was 6-2 to Ratoath and 3-3 to St.Mary’s. All the girls put in excellent performances and exceptional games were had by Madeline Harney, Kate McPhillips and Maria Doyle.
The coaches would like to thank all the girls for their huge effort in training and matches all year and with the same effort next year we hope to progress further. Thanks also to Orlaigh Behan and Aoife Murphy for their help all year.
