All Ireland Basketball Semi Final Winners

St Marys Naas - All Ireland Semi Finals 1

St. Mary's Naas met Dingle Community School in the All Ireland U19B semi finals in University of Limerick on the 13th January 2016. St Mary's got off to a flying start with baskets from Mary Creaton and Nicole Clancy coupled with free throws from Áine Conway giving them an early 6 nil lead. While Dingle fought bravely St Mary's well run offence coupled with tough defence saw Naas  lead at half time by 15 points. Scores in the second half from Ciara Friel, Eimear O'Neill, Grace Casey and Hannah Heveran extended St. Mary's lead and tough defence from Georgia Mc Holmes, Rachel Naughton and Margaret Mullanney and good rebounding by Áine Conway and Kate Coffey ensured that Dingle did not close the gap. Nicole Clancy, who finished the match as top scorer with 28 points,  and Mary Creaton, kept the Naas scoring going and St. Mary's ran out eventual winners by 53 points to 28 points. The All Ireland Finals will be held in the last week of January and St. Mary's will meed St. Paul's from Oughterard in Galway in the final.  

 

 

First Year Futsal

Our First Year Saint Mary's footsal team travelled to Holy Family in Newbridge today November the 5th. The team was very excited and eager to get playing and get some wins. They were up against Piper's Hill College for the first match, Pipers Hill then got a goal early on in the match which woke the girls up,followed by another goal by Piper;s Hill and soon followed by another. Unfortunately Piper's Hill got the better of our girls but they still kept their head up as they had 3 more games to go. The final score for that match was 3:0 to Pipers Hill. Futsa 1For their second match they were up against St Paul's. St. Mary's were very hungry for the ball and a brilliant goal scored by Emma Lawlor  put St. Mary's in the lead but St Paul's soon recovered and got a goal which kept them even. The final score for this match was 1:1. St. Mary's then took on Holy Family's B team, Hannah Plumber  scored a magnificent goal to set us in the lead but of course Holy Family wasn't giving up/ They then came back with a goal. During the last few seconds of the second half Hannah Plumber came back again with a brilliant winning goal. The final score to this match was 2:1 to Saint Mary's.

For the final game St Mary's met Holy Family's A team. Hannah Plumber kicked off the game getting a lovely goal to set St. Mary's in the lead but Holy Family weren't giving up amd they soon got a goal leaving them even. Second half came and Ruth McDonnell got a brilliant goal putting St Mary's in the lead once again but Holy Family then got the better of the girls and scored the winning two goals leaving the final score as 3:2 to Holy Family. The girls played brilliant they came 3rd out of the 5 teams playing. The players of the matches were Hannah Plumber and Emma Lawlor -  well done girls!
