As part of the Goethe Institut’s language campaign “GermanConnects:)”, a touring bus - the Deutschmobil –visited St. Mary’s College on Friday, February 14th.
German
The aim was to inform students about Germany and the German language. Versatile, colourful teaching materials and topics fascinated our 2nd and 5th year pupils and made them want to know more. We were brought on a journey through Germany. During the journey we had to find different sights in various cities, go shopping, discuss German music… We all enjoyed the day.
Second Year Spikeball Team - Regional Winners.
It was an eventful day in Kilkenny for the South-east Regional Spikeball final. 5 teams represented St. Mary's. In the First Year semi-final it was an all St. Mary's event and excellent play from both teams was evident. Naas 1 team were the victors and now progress to the All Ireland Final.
In the Second Year matches Naas 2 and 3 teams, despite excellent commitment and play, did not advance to the knockout stages. Naas 1 (2nd year team) won all their matches and have now qualified for the All Ireland Finals in UCD in the near future. Well done to all involved and especially to Ms. Moloney and Ms. Hennessy for their coaching of all teams.
Transition Years have been very busy over the past months getting ready to launch their mini companies. All their hard work accumulated in a display held in the Assembly Hall recently. Below are some of this year's companies.

On Friday the 24th the Junior Camogie team played in their Dublin League Semi-Final against Our Lady’s College, Templeogue. The match kicked off at 10am in Naas GAA club. With Roisin O’Hara as the captain of our team for the day, it began with a great start. St. Mary’s easily getting possession of the ball and keeping it down their side of the pitch. The other team was strong with their tackles but our girls fought back, with some extremely good tackling from Hannah Cusack, Ruth Clancy and Katie Kellaghan during the first few minutes.
The first point of the match was then scored by Áine Conway, which she scored with ease. The terribly bad weather was no stop to the St. Mary’s girls who, soon after, got 3 goals in the first half. One scored by Caoimhe Maher and the other two by Eilis Kenny.
During the second half of the match the weather seemed to get worse, with it bucketing down and this made playing conditions very difficult. It was hard to pick up the sliotar but our team battled through it and managed to get two more very impressive points, one from Áine Conway and the other from Emma Kielty. St. Mary’s girls had most of the possession of the ball throughout the match except for the last few minutes when Templeogue managed to get the ball to score a goal and a point.
This was a very hard but impressive match with all of the team playing well. St. Mary’s girls won 3-3 to 1-1. This was a great win, especially considering the weather conditions of the day. Player of the match has to go to Hannah Cusack who worked tirelessly throughout the game and other girls who played very well were Ruth Clancy and Eilis Kenny. The girls will now play St Michael’s, Finglas ,in the Dublin League final. (match report by Niamh Cowley & Jamie Lee Nolan
On Friday the 24th of January, St. Mary’s under-17 soccer team played against Coláiste Life, Lucan. The match kicked off at 10 o’clock. The atmosphere was electric from the start with the ball moving constantly between the two sides. There was support from many teachers, and Mr Langton’s third year geography joined in as well to help cheer on the team. Unluckily though, Coláiste Life scored. Nevertheless St. Mary’s wasn’t giving up and kept fighting. General play resumed. There was fantastic play from Alison Walsh and Grace Casey, along with some great saves from goalie Caitlin. There was another goal from Coláiste Life but St. Mary’s would not surrender. After a short break, and some well chosen wise words from Mr Langton, the team were able to battle on once again. It was an absolutely brilliant game, with great play from both sides, but unfortunately St. Mary’s did not win this time. However the team played superbly over all.
